I've been trying to develop a junior drum corps at a high school here in Australia.
Does anyone have advice on some good publications for developing a good group with good techniques from scratch?

Thanks in advance

Snare Science has many useful and popular exercises to aid in the forming of good playing habits.
You can simply go to http://www.snarescience.com and click on the exercises section. As far as actual
books, there are numerous books to help in the development of individual players. Stone Stick
Control is the bible of drummers everywhere for sure. If you can get your hands on the Yamaha
Sounds of Summer workbooks, these have basic exercises used world wide also. Row-Loff is also
a good source for drumming literature. (http://www.rowloff.com). Tap Space publications is another
good source, although a majority of their focus would be considered too advanced for novice lines.

Personally, I would focus on a few basic exercises instead of trying to inundate them with a lot
of flams and such. Eight on a hand, accent tap, double beat, 16th note grids, accented 16th note grids,
accented triplets/sextuplets, diddle grids, (one or two sets-add the third as they progress),
and roll grids. (4-2-1 patterns,etc..to help build chops). And whatever you do, don't let them play
too high! Focus on a 3 height system- 3-6-9 maybe or whatever feels right.

Also, watch these by Brian Mason:

After watching the 8 on a hand video, it should advance to the other videos.

This should get you started and please keep us posted on the progress.
