Greetings members,

I just found out that one of our members, a former Marty Hurley student, Val Schaff, who customized drums part-time, was paralyzed while boogie boarding on May 28th. There is a page set up for donations for his medical expenses at http://www.gofundme.com/vxx3bq3u.

Val refinished my tenors to match my snare drum back in 2008 or so. He did a fantastic job. I personally drove over to his hometown of Albita Springs to pick them up, where Val and I spent about 20 minutes talking drums and stuff. I was very distressed to hear this news, and I offer prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.

I thought of Val Schaff when I was having trouble hearing the drumlines at finals! I hope things are working out for him.
